As part of the launch of Culinaria’s new San Antonio Restaurant Weeks website, we’re expanding the way we explore the city—because great experiences don’t happen in a vacuum. These guides are your go-to for making the most of San Antonio in and out of the dining room. Scroll through, get inspired, and start planning your next bite, sip, or stroll.

San Antonio isn’t just about iconic sights and river views—it’s also home to under-the-radar green spaces, neighborhood gems, and quirky outdoor adventures waiting to be uncovered. Whether you’re chasing a quiet morning walk, a hidden picnic spot, or a little Mother Nature time with a twist, there’s no shortage of ways to breathe in the city’s fresh side.

Start with a shady stroll through Medina River Natural Area, a lesser-known trail system on the city’s south side that feels miles away from it all. Or explore Comanche Lookout Park on the city’s Northeast side, where a stone tower and a network of trails offer unique views (and a solid photo op). Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park is another quiet gem, boasting wide open fields, interpretive trails, and the occasional deer sighting. You wouldn’t even know it’s a peaceful retreat tucked between neighborhoods.

For a fresh-air experience with a wellness twist, book a foot soak or outdoor service at Camp Hot Wells, where warm, mineral-rich water and historic surroundings set the vibe. It’s located next to the atmospheric Hot Wells ruins, so you can pair a bit of pampering with a self-guided wander through the past. Craving a more interactive experience? Head to Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair, packed with interactive art, local eateries, and plenty of shade. Lose track of time in the curated landscapes of the San Antonio Botanical Garden, or catch one of their yoga-in-the-garden sessions or garden-to-table cooking demos.

If you’re looking to break a sweat, San Antonio delivers. The Howard W. Peak Greenway Trails system connects more than 80 miles of hike and bike trails around the city—perfect for cyclists, runners, or anyone who wants to explore on two feet (or two wheels). McAllister Park is another longtime favorite for active outings, offering everything from mountain bike trails to disc golf and wide, shaded paths ideal for a weekend jog. You’ll also find free outdoor fitness equipment along parts of the Mission Reach, so your workout comes with river views and a breeze.

Whether you're into soaking, strolling, or scenic surprises, San Antonio’s lesser-known outdoor spots offer fresh air—and fresh perspective—on a city that’s always full of surprises.
